What is industrial scaffolding?

Industrial scaffolding is temporary access built for industrial and large commercial structures. It’s usually bigger, heavier-duty or more complex than the scaffolding you’d see on a house. It often needs a bespoke design and close coordination with the site team, because people, vehicles and machinery are still working nearby.

Industrial scaffolding services

Independent tied scaffolds

The standard working platform along walls, cladding and roof edges, tied back to the structure for stability.

System scaffolding

Modular scaffolding systems go up quickly and give a consistent, tidy finish. They suit large buildings, repeated layouts and long projects.

Birdcage scaffolding

A birdcage scaffold is a grid of standards that supports a full working deck at height. It’s ideal for warehouse ceilings, the underside of roofs, atriums and large internal spaces where people need to work across a whole area rather than along one wall.

Scaffold stair towers

A stair tower gives safer, easier access than ladders, especially where staff and contractors are going up and down all day with tools and materials. They’re common on roofs, plant decks, mezzanines and multi-level sites.

Edge protection and roof edge protection

Roof edge protection stops people and materials falling from flat roofs, open floors and voids. We provide scaffold-based edge protection with guardrails and toe boards, and temporary edge protection systems for roof work, mezzanines and leading edges. Under the Work at Height Regulations 2005, edge protection is one of the main ways to prevent falls during roof work.

Loading bays and gantries

A scaffold loading bay gives a safe, gated landing point for materials lifted by forklift, telehandler or crane. Gantries let work carry on above while walkways or roads stay open underneath.

Debris netting and scaffold sheeting

Debris netting stops small debris, dust and tools falling from the scaffold. Monarflex-style scaffold sheeting goes a step further, wrapping the scaffold to contain dust, overspray and weather. Both help protect staff, the public and nearby vehicles.

Temporary roofs and encapsulation

A temporary roof keeps the building dry while roof sheets are replaced. Full encapsulation creates a sealed working area for blasting, coating or work that has to be contained.

Scaffold alarms and security

On large or quiet sites, scaffold alarm systems and anti-climb measures help prevent unauthorised access out of hours.

Planned around a working site

Site survey

We walk the site with your facilities team or site manager. We look at ground conditions, forklift and lorry routes, overhead services, live plant and how people move around. That tells us where the scaffold can go and how to keep it out of the way.

Scaffold design

Many industrial structures need a designed scaffold rather than a standard TG20:21 arrangement, particularly where heights, loads or ties are unusual. Where that applies, we provide a design and calculations before anything goes up.

RAMS, permits and inductions

We supply risk assessments and method statements for the work, and follow your site rules, inductions and permit-to-work process.

Phased and out-of-hours work

We can build in zones, phase the scaffold around production, and work early, late or at weekends where that keeps disruption down. Barriers, signage and protection fans keep people safe below.

Scaffolding supervisor checking a scaffold inspection tag

Scaffold inspections

The Work at Height Regulations 2005 require a scaffold to be inspected by a competent person:

  • before it’s used for the first time
  • at least every seven days while it’s in use
  • after anything that could affect its stability, such as high winds, an impact or alterations

We carry out and record these inspections and use a scaffold tagging system, so everyone on site can see at a glance whether a scaffold is safe to use.

Safety and compliance

  • Fully qualified and insured scaffolding team
  • Scaffolds built to TG20:21 guidance, with bespoke designs where required
  • Inspections in line with the Work at Height Regulations 2005
  • Risk assessments, method statements and lift plans where needed
  • Pavement and highway licences arranged with Oxfordshire County Council for work on public land

Industrial Scaffolding FAQs

What is the difference between industrial and commercial scaffolding?

Commercial scaffolding usually covers shops, offices and similar buildings. Industrial scaffolding covers factories, warehouses, plant and process sites, where the structures are larger, the loads heavier and the site often stays live while the work goes on.

What is a birdcage scaffold used for?

A birdcage scaffold creates a full working platform across a large area at height. It's used for ceilings, roof undersides, atriums and big internal spaces.

What is edge protection?

Edge protection is a barrier, usually guardrails and toe boards, fitted along an open edge such as a flat roof, floor slab or mezzanine to stop people and materials falling.

How often should scaffolding be inspected?

A scaffold must be inspected before first use, at least every seven days while in use, and after anything that could affect its safety, such as strong winds or an impact.

Can you scaffold while our site stays open?

Yes. We plan the scaffold around vehicle routes, production areas and staff movement, and can phase the work or build out of hours.

Do you provide RAMS and scaffold designs?

Yes. We supply risk assessments and method statements for every industrial job, and provide a scaffold design and calculations where the scaffold falls outside standard configurations.

Do you offer industrial scaffold hire for long-term projects?

Yes. We offer flexible weekly and monthly hire for maintenance, refurbishment and shutdown work, with inspections throughout.
