What scaffolding you can hire
We hire out, build and look after scaffolding for every kind of job, from a single chimney to a whole warehouse roof. Pick the one closest to your project, or ask us and we’ll recommend the right set-up at the site visit.
Residential scaffold hire
For roofs, gutters, windows, rendering, extensions and loft conversions. Most houses are scaffolded in a day.
Roof scaffolding hire
An eaves-level platform with edge protection, plus a loading bay for tiles and slates when your roofer needs one.
Chimney scaffold hire
A raised deck around the stack with safe access across the roof, for repointing, leadwork, new pots or removal.
Scaffolding for painting
Long, continuous boarded lifts so decorators can work along the whole face without moving ladders.
Temporary roof hire
A temporary roof or full sheeting that keeps the house dry while the roof is stripped.
Stair tower hire
Scaffold stair towers for safer access than ladders on busy sites, flat roofs and multi-level jobs.
Internal and birdcage scaffold hire
Full working decks for high ceilings, stairwells, atriums, churches and warehouse roofs.
Commercial and industrial hire
Shops, offices, schools, factories and warehouses, planned around your opening hours and site rules.
Scaffold tower hire
Alloy towers from around £30 a week for low-level jobs, delivered or built for you.
Which scaffold should you hire?
The right scaffold depends on the job, not the house. Here’s what most people in Oxfordshire end up hiring, and for roughly how long.
| Your job | What you’ll usually hire | Typical hire period |
|---|---|---|
| Gutters, fascias or a few slipped tiles | One-elevation scaffold, or an alloy tower for low work | 1 to 4 weeks |
| Roof repair or re-roof | Eaves-level scaffold with edge protection and a loading bay | 4 to 8 weeks |
| Chimney repointing or removal | Chimney scaffold with a raised platform | 2 to 6 weeks |
| Exterior painting or rendering | Boarded lifts along the full face | 3 to 8 weeks |
| Extension or loft conversion | Scaffold that rises with the build, plus a loading bay | 6 to 16 weeks |
| Solar panel installation | Edge protection along the eaves | 1 to 2 weeks |
| Shopfront or office | Pavement scaffold with a protected walkway | Depends on the work |
| Warehouse roof or ceiling | Industrial scaffold or birdcage scaffold | Depends on the work |
These are typical guides. Your quote will show the exact hire period agreed for your job.

How hire periods and weekly rates work
Your quote is a fixed price that covers putting the scaffold up, an agreed hire period and taking it down. Most of that price is labour, so the scaffold costs much the same whether it stands for one week or four.
| Situation | How it’s charged |
|---|---|
| Agreed hire period | Included in your fixed price |
| Each extra week | The weekly rate on your quote |
| Job finishes early | Call us and we’ll book the strike |
| Long-term or commercial hire | Weekly or monthly rate agreed up front |
Always check the weekly rate before you sign. It’s the figure that matters most if your builder runs over.

Your hire from start to finish
- Free site visit. We look at the building, the ground and the access, and talk through what your trades need.
- Fixed written quote. The scaffold, the hire period, the weekly rate and any licence or extras, all in writing.
- Erection and handover. We build the scaffold on the agreed day and hand it over with an inspection record.
- During the hire. We inspect it at least every 7 days and after high winds, and keep the record up to date.
- Changes and extensions. Need an extra lift, a loading bay or more weeks? Call us and we’ll sort it.
- Off-hire and collection. Tell us when the work is finished and we’ll take the scaffold down and clear the site.
Before your scaffold goes up: a quick checklist
A little preparation makes the day go faster and keeps your hire cost down.
- Book your roofer, builder or painter so they start soon after the scaffold is up
- Move cars and open side gates on the day
- Let your neighbours know, especially if the scaffold goes near their boundary
- Tell us about conservatories, glass roofs, cables or anything fragile
- Check whether the scaffold will stand on a pavement, so we can apply for the licence
- Think about security if the house will be empty, and ask us about alarms
Safety, licences and responsibilities
Here’s what the law and good practice expect while your scaffold is up, and who looks after what.
Inspections
Under the Work at Height Regulations 2005, a scaffold must be inspected before first use, at least every 7 days while in use, and after anything that could affect it, such as high winds. We carry out and record these for you.
Pavement licences
If any part of the scaffold stands on a public footpath or road, it needs a licence from Oxfordshire County Council, with five working days’ notice and £10 million public liability cover. We handle the application.
Neighbours
If the scaffold has to stand on or over a neighbour’s land, you’ll need their agreement first. We’re happy to explain the plan to them.
Who can change the scaffold
Only our scaffolders should alter it. Trades using it must not remove ties, boards or guardrails. Call us and we’ll make changes, often the same day.
Security
Ladder guards, alarms and anti-climb measures help keep empty houses and quiet sites safe out of hours. Ask us at the site visit.
Built to the right standard
Our scaffolds follow TG20:21 guidance, with a bespoke design where the building or the loads need one.
Scaffolding Hire FAQs
How much is scaffolding to hire?
For a typical two-storey house in Oxfordshire, hiring scaffolding for one elevation costs around £600 to £1,100, including erection, several weeks of hire and dismantling. A full scaffold around a house usually costs £1,500 to £3,200.
What is the minimum hire period for scaffolding?
There is no fixed minimum, but most home quotes include four to eight weeks as standard. Because most of the cost is labour, a shorter hire rarely costs much less.
Can I extend my scaffold hire?
Yes. Let us know before the agreed period ends and the scaffold stays up. Each extra week is charged at the weekly rate on your quote.
How do I end my scaffold hire?
Call or message us when the work is finished. We book the strike, take the scaffold down and clear the site.
Can I move or change hired scaffolding myself?
No. Only trained scaffolders should alter a scaffold. If you need a lift moved, a board added or a loading bay, call us and we will make the change and re-inspect it.
Who is responsible for the scaffold during the hire?
We are responsible for building, inspecting and altering the scaffold. You and your trades are responsible for using it properly, not removing any parts, and telling us about damage or changes. Your quote sets out the details.
Is scaffolding rental the same as scaffolding hire?
Yes. In the UK, scaffolding hire and scaffolding rental mean the same thing. With a scaffolding contractor, the price includes putting the scaffold up, inspecting it and taking it down.
Do you offer scaffolding hire near me?
We hire scaffolding across Oxford and Oxfordshire, including Abingdon, Banbury, Bicester, Didcot, Witney, Wantage, Thame, Wallingford, Kidlington, Carterton and Henley-on-Thames.
